Van MOT Testing
Class 4 and Class 7 MOT testing for vans of all makes. Same-day rectification if your vehicle needs work to pass.
Class 4 and Class 7 MOT testing under one roof
Van MOT testing isn’t as straightforward as booking your car in at the local garage. If your van is at the heavier end — think long-wheelbase Sprinters, high-roof Transits, or loaded Crafters — it may fall into Class 7, which most car garages simply aren’t equipped to test.
Class 4 vs Class 7 — what’s the difference?
The MOT class depends on your van’s design gross weight (DGW), which is the maximum weight it’s designed to carry including the vehicle itself, passengers, fuel, and payload.
Class 4 covers goods vehicles up to 3,000kg DGW. This includes most standard panel vans — shorter-wheelbase Transits, Sprinters, Vivaros, Trafics, and similar.
Class 7 covers goods vehicles between 3,001kg and 3,500kg DGW. This includes larger panel vans at their higher weight ratings — long-wheelbase / high-roof variants of the Transit, Sprinter, Crafter, Master, Movano, Boxer, and Relay. A Class 7 test requires a larger bay (minimum 14 metres long, 3.5 metres wide, 4.8 metres high) and a rated roller brake tester. Many garages advertising “van MOTs” can only do Class 4.
We do both — no need to shop around
HFG Commercials is equipped for both Class 4 and Class 7 testing, so whether your van weighs 2.8 tonnes or 3.5 tonnes, we can test it. No need to ring three garages trying to find one with a Class 7 bay.
Same-day rectification
If your van doesn’t pass first time, our workshop can carry out the necessary repairs the same day in most cases — saving you a second trip and getting your vehicle back to work faster. If the repair takes longer, we’ll give you a clear timeline upfront.

If we carry out the rectification work, the retest is free within 10 working days — standard DVSA rules apply.
